System Vocabulary
Central processing unit- The part or the computer that executes instruction, controls the flow of data.
Expansion slots- A part of the motherboard that allows the connection of circuit with additional ports.
Flash memory-A type of removable memory commonly used in small hand-held devices.
Graphical user interface- A design for the part of an operating system in which the user typically operates a mouse to point and click.
Hard drive- A nonremoovable storage device usedto hold software and dataon the computer.
Haerdware-The physical parts of a computer system including input, output,storege,and other devices.
Input device-Any device that accepts data from the user.
Linux-An operating system based on unix that permits any programmer to improve it and is available as freeware.
MacOS-The operating system of the Macintosh line of computer.
Mainframe-A computersystem used by large organiztion that can suport many users.
minicomputer-A computer system smiller and less powerful than a mainframe.
